Classic Adelaide Rally - Proposed ‘iconic’ stage for the Yankalilla District

Consultation has concluded
In October 2015 the much loved Classic Adelaide Rally will return and it has been proposed that the Rally’s most significant stage will be held in the Yankalilla District. The most picturesque sections of Torrens Vale Road, Parawa Road, Range Road and South Road will make up a 46km competitive tarmac stage, shining the spotlight on the District’s spectacular landscape and coastline and raising our profile as a great touring destination. There’s also plans for a second competitive stage along Reservoir Road, north of the Myponga Reservoir and a lunch stop at the Yankalilla Memorial Park Oval for approximately 600 crew members as well as spectators.
This proposal offers our District’s businesses and community groups the opportunity to get ‘a slice of the action’ and it will inject the vibrancy and excitement that comes with being a part of one of South Australia’s major events. But we understand that this comes hand-in-hand with the inconvenience of road closures of up to 4.5 hours.
We are encouraging the community to get in touch with us to share ideas about how any inconveniences can be minimised and we are keen to speak to anyone who wants to make comment. If you’re a community group or business person with ideas about how to get more involved with the Classic Adelaide Rally we would also like to hear from you.
If you'd like to speak to someone about this please contact Tim Possingham at the Sporting Car Club of SA who are the event organisers on (08) 8373 4899 or sccsaamf@internode.on.net. Council’s contact is Amber Nancarrow (08) 8558 0200
