Exercising Dogs on our Beaches

Consultation has concluded

Following feedback from the community, Council is looking to adjust its dog exercise controls on our beaches and invites all member of the community to provide their opinions.

As residents and visitors use our beaches for many different reasons and Council aims to facilitate areas where year-round activities can take place with and without dogs being leashed.

NORMANVILLE/CARRICKALINGA BEACH CONTROLS

Council is looking for opinions from the community on implementing a dog on-leash zone and a dog off-leash area at Normanville/Carrickalinga Beaches. The proposal is:

  • Dog on-leash 200m either side of the Normanville jetty
  • Dog off-leash 200m north of Normanville jetty (Lacham Street access) to south of the Carrickalinga Creek

The proposed controls would be in place all year round at all times of the day.

DISTRICT WIDE CONTROLS

A current control requires dogs to be ON-LEASH between 10am and 6pm during daylight savings (October to April). Council is keen to hear the opinions of the community on changing these controls so they are applied during the busy holiday periods only. Your feedback is sought for changing dog on-leash controls:

FROM between 10am and 6pm during Daylight Savings (approx. October to April)

TO between 10am and 6pm from 1 December through to the end of February and the Good Friday to Easter Monday (inclusive). Outside of these times, the beaches would be dog OFF-LEASH areas (unless signed otherwise).

Irrespective of any controls, all dogs are to be under effective control at all times and the General Inspectors will be rostered to enforce the controls 7 days per week.
