Consultation has concluded
SA Power Networks is working with Council to undertake a battery storage trial at Cape Jervis for up to a 3 year period.
The trial will involve the installation of shipping containers on a Council reserve located at Lot 149 James Street Cape Jervis.
The land on which the shipping containers are to be installed is listed as Community Land under Council’s Community Land Register.
Under the Local Government Act 1999 Part 1 Section 202 it is stated ‘A council may grant a lease or licence over community land (including community land that is, or forms part of, a park or reserve)’.
Consultation closed in April with the results presented to Council at the 16th May Council meeting. It was resolved to approve the lease of the land to enable the 3 year trial to begin. In addition, Council also resolved that the $15,000 lease fee be utilised for support funding to Cape Jervis Community Groups, in accordance with Council’s Community Grants Guidelines.

CLOSED: This discussion has concluded.
I fully support this proposed trial. The community meetings last week were inspirational in terms of the information presented by SA Power Network and the University of Adelaide. Re Adrian's comments. The proposed 'building' will now be an especially designed transportable building, not containers. It must be white for temperature stability. We discussed the possibility of decorating the fence around it and the community will discuss how this could be done at a community meeting next month.

Think this trial is great and would love to see more renewable energy in the area - perhaps incentives to property owners to install solar and have a permanent storage/back up facility in town.

2 containers sitting around look pretty ugly. Considering the rather brilliant mural artists we seem to have in the area(see the Normanville beach and street areas for examples) might it be possible to run a competition or something along these lines for "interested parties" to compete for the opportunity to place appropriate murals on the 8 sides of the 2 containers. While I am not in a position to make a commitment, if you are interested in doing this the Yank Community Opshop could be convinced to help fund such a comp. The group being a true democracy will all have to agree. Since we will be having a meeting in the next couple of weeks I can raise the question and test their reaction. I'm the groups treasurer and can be reached on adrian.van.berkel@iinet.net.au (0885583313) The President is Mrs L Edge, her details you can probably find in your SES volunteer register Vice Pres. is Anne Hess and your Cemetery coordinater should have her details.
