The Rapid Bay Camping Ground functions differently to a public park or open space and is governed by the Community Land Management Plan (CLMP) for the site. Its designation as a camping ground means it is managed to support visitor use and generate community benefit in a different way.

Supporting Rapid Bay's natural assets and the wildlife found there are also important considerations.

The questions you've raised will help inform the review of the CLMP for the camping ground - we have passed them on to Asset & Environment Team for their response.

  • Share hi , over the long weekend (4th,5th & 6th of October ) camp ground was extremely busy with most vehicle being 4wd & caravans , i personally viewed vehicle driven along the beach to the very end towards the cliff , rubbish blowing around & left on the beach & also campers washing dishes & disposing of soapy washer on the camp sight ground , also the just day visiting people in the carpark was also extremely busy & required extra rubbish bins , i would like to see better signs clearly saying rules & fines & and limit the number of vehicles on beach & in camp ground which soon will become dirt pitt again as grass will soon be gone , also a system in place for soapy water , perhaps camp ground should be moved to left hand side of creek on gravel & turn the existing camp site into a bbq park & playground with no vehicles on grass , i definitly would not like to see the existing camp site to increase in size as it would definitely impact the environment & natural beauty of Rapid bay on Facebook Share hi , over the long weekend (4th,5th & 6th of October ) camp ground was extremely busy with most vehicle being 4wd & caravans , i personally viewed vehicle driven along the beach to the very end towards the cliff , rubbish blowing around & left on the beach & also campers washing dishes & disposing of soapy washer on the camp sight ground , also the just day visiting people in the carpark was also extremely busy & required extra rubbish bins , i would like to see better signs clearly saying rules & fines & and limit the number of vehicles on beach & in camp ground which soon will become dirt pitt again as grass will soon be gone , also a system in place for soapy water , perhaps camp ground should be moved to left hand side of creek on gravel & turn the existing camp site into a bbq park & playground with no vehicles on grass , i definitly would not like to see the existing camp site to increase in size as it would definitely impact the environment & natural beauty of Rapid bay on Twitter Share hi , over the long weekend (4th,5th & 6th of October ) camp ground was extremely busy with most vehicle being 4wd & caravans , i personally viewed vehicle driven along the beach to the very end towards the cliff , rubbish blowing around & left on the beach & also campers washing dishes & disposing of soapy washer on the camp sight ground , also the just day visiting people in the carpark was also extremely busy & required extra rubbish bins , i would like to see better signs clearly saying rules & fines & and limit the number of vehicles on beach & in camp ground which soon will become dirt pitt again as grass will soon be gone , also a system in place for soapy water , perhaps camp ground should be moved to left hand side of creek on gravel & turn the existing camp site into a bbq park & playground with no vehicles on grass , i definitly would not like to see the existing camp site to increase in size as it would definitely impact the environment & natural beauty of Rapid bay on Linkedin Email hi , over the long weekend (4th,5th & 6th of October ) camp ground was extremely busy with most vehicle being 4wd & caravans , i personally viewed vehicle driven along the beach to the very end towards the cliff , rubbish blowing around & left on the beach & also campers washing dishes & disposing of soapy washer on the camp sight ground , also the just day visiting people in the carpark was also extremely busy & required extra rubbish bins , i would like to see better signs clearly saying rules & fines & and limit the number of vehicles on beach & in camp ground which soon will become dirt pitt again as grass will soon be gone , also a system in place for soapy water , perhaps camp ground should be moved to left hand side of creek on gravel & turn the existing camp site into a bbq park & playground with no vehicles on grass , i definitly would not like to see the existing camp site to increase in size as it would definitely impact the environment & natural beauty of Rapid bay link

Thank you for sharing these observations and suggestions following the long weekend, it’s helpful for us to hear firsthand accounts of how the campground and beach area are being used - Rapid Bay is certainly a popular place and we acknowledge that the issues you've outlined - such as appropriate signage, wastewater disposal, rubbish and vehicle's on the beach - can arise. Your feedback has been passed on to our Asset & Environment Team who will be able to get back to you here with further information about the management of the Rapid Bay Camping Ground and surrounding areas.

Thanks for asking, it's an important consideration. We acknowledge the community's interest in ensuring that water from showers, dishwashing and other uses at the camping ground is managed responsibly and doesn't impact the coastal environment. Let us follow this up with our Asset & Environment Team and get back to you here with some more information.

    Regards, DCY Community Engagement Team
