The community is invited to review Council's Draft Community Engagement Policy and updated Connecting with Our Community Framework.

Council has prepared a Draft Community Engagement Policy and updated its Connecting with Our Community Framework that set out how we will engage with the community and meet new legislative obligations brough about by the Minister for Local Government's Community Engagement Charter (the Charter). The community is invited to review the documents and provide feedback.

These documents set out Council's approach to community engagement and how we will involve the community in decisions that affect them. Replacing the long-outdated DCY Public Consultation Policy, the new Draft Community Engagement Policy establishes how Council will meet its legislative obligations and apply the Charter.

This review follows changes to the Local Government Act 1999 (the Act) and the introduction of the Charter in late 2025, which established principles of engagement and minimum requirements for South Australian councils.

Together, the draft Policy and updated Framework provides guidance for planning and delivering community engagement programs. They explain when and how Council will engage with the community, Council's approach to engagement and how community feedback will be considered in decision-making.

We encourage you to read the draft documents and provide your feedback.

Community consultation concludes Thursday 23 July 2026
