Yankalilla District Local Heritage - Stage 1 (Delamere, Normanville & Yankalilla) Code Amendment

The District Council of Yankalilla has been granted approval by the Minister for Planning to amend the Planning and Design Code by listing 51 Local Heritage Places situated across the townships of Delamere, Normanville and Yankalilla. This listing will remain in place for 12 months or until the Code Amendment process is finalised, whichever is sooner.

Being listed as a Local Heritage Place means that the Place has local historical significance that warrants protection from demolition or inappropriate development which will impact on the heritage value of the Place.

Where a place is listed as a Local Heritage Place, this does not prevent landowners from renovating or undertaking additions to their property. Rather, additional consideration needs to be made to ensure the works retain, and not compromise, the listed heritage qualities or features of the place.

Properties adjacent to a listed Local Heritage Place are also automatically subject to planning policy change via the application of the Heritage Adjacency Overlay as contained in the Planning and Design Code. Accordingly, any new building work on an adjacent property will need to be designed so that it does not dominate or impact on the setting of a listed Local Heritage Place.

Why are we doing this?

Heritage is important to townships for several reasons encompassing social, cultural, and economic factors. It provides a vital link to the past, shapes identity, fosters community spirit and offers tangible benefits for local economies.

Who will be affected?

  • Landowners with a place that has been listed as a Local Heritage Place
  • Landowners of properties adjacent to a listed Local Heritage Place.
